Install guide
Installing Clipy
Pick whichever route suits you — they install the same app. Either way macOS asks you to confirm the first launch, because Clipy isn't notarized by Apple yet. That's one extra step, once, and everything below walks you through it.
-
Download the app
Grab the latest DMG. It's about 1 MB.

Drag Clipy into Applications
Open the DMG, then drag Clipy onto the Applications shortcut in the same window. Eject the disk image when you're done.
-
Install with one command
If you already use Homebrew, this is the tidy way — and it makes updates a single command too.
brew install --cask arunb1212/clipy/clipy-aiUse the full name. The name isclipy-ai, notclipy—clipyis an older, different clipboard manager that's already in Homebrew, sobrew install --cask clipywould install that app. Install with the full name above: Homebrew only trusts third-party casks you name explicitly, and the full form trusts just this one cask.installs into /Applicationsbrew install --cask arunb1212/clipy/clipy-ai
brew upgrade --cask clipy-ai · to remove:
brew uninstall --cask clipy-ai

Install from Terminal — no prompts at all
Downloading in a browser is what makes macOS flag the app. Downloading from Terminal doesn't, so this installs and opens Clipy with no warnings. It's the same as clicking Open Anyway yourself — just done for you.
curl -L -o /tmp/Clipy.dmg "https://www.tryclipy.online/downloads/Clipy.dmg" && mkdir -p /tmp/clipydmg && hdiutil attach -nobrowse -mountpoint /tmp/clipydmg /tmp/Clipy.dmg && cp -R /tmp/clipydmg/Clipy.app /Applications/ && hdiutil detach /tmp/clipydmg && open /Applications/Clipy.appThe explicit
-mountpointmatters: without it macOS can mount the image as/Volumes/Clipy 3when another volume already uses that name, and the copy fails.
Then, for every route
-
Allow it to open — once
macOS 15 (Sequoia) and newer: double-click Clipy. You'll see "Apple could not verify…" — click Done, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security, and click Open Anyway. Enter your password to confirm.
macOS 13 or 14: in Finder, right-click (or Control-click) Clipy and choose Open, then Open again in the dialog. A plain double-click won't work the first time.
"Apple could not verify "Clipy" is free of malware."Open AnywayIf macOS instead says "Clipy is damaged and can't be opened", it isn't damaged — that's the same check being blunter. Clear the flag and open it normally:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Clipy.app -
Grant Accessibility
Clipy needs Accessibility to paste for you and to expand snippets — without it, choosing an item copies but never pastes, and snippets stay silent.
Use the menu-bar paperclip → Grant Accessibility…, then switch Clipy on in Privacy & Security → Accessibility. If an older Clipy entry is already listed, remove it with the − button and add the app again — macOS ties this permission to the exact build, so a stale entry can look enabled while doing nothing.
