Clipboard history and snippets never leave your Mac — that's the core of Clipy and it works fully offline. AI transforms are the one deliberate exception, and only when you type a % command: the text of that field is sent to Clipy's backend to be rewritten, never stored, never used for training, and password fields are always skipped. You'll see a one-time consent screen before first use.

One thing, the first time. Clipy isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm before it will open the app: double-click Clipy, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. On macOS 13–14 you can instead right-click the app and choose Open. It opens normally from then on.

You'll also be asked once for Accessibility permission — that's what lets ⌥V work from any app and snippets expand as you type. If you'd rather skip the confirmation entirely, the Homebrew install and the Terminal one-liner in the install guide avoid it.

To detect your global shortcut and expand snippets system-wide, macOS requires Accessibility access. Clipy uses it only for those two things — no network, no analytics, nothing else.

In a local SQLite database at ~/Library/Application Support/Clipy/clipy.db. Nothing syncs, nothing uploads. Delete the file and it's gone.
